As an illustrator and designer, Suzan Hijink is driven by curiosity and the joy of storytelling. Her art invites you to look closer, and then look again. For those who pay attention, there’s often more to discover: the use of vibrant colors, layered textures, and a keen sense for detail, she creates images that are both realistic and subtly surreal. Depth and spatiality play a key role in her compositions. She builds visual worlds that feel almost tangible. Scenes you can imagine stepping into, wandering through, and getting lost in for a moment. Suzan works across multiple disciplines, from newspaper illustrations and murals to light installations, wallpaper, and even ceramics. Food — in all its cultural, emotional, and symbolic richness — is a recurring theme in her autonomous work. Her latest series 'Veggies on the Wall' reimagines vegetables as whimsical ceramic trophies: playful, poetic, and a little bit strange.
